The spoils of being the best! GASGAS was recognised at the 2022 FIM Awards in San Marino as the brand officially wrapped its most successful racing year. The brand now has 34 titles in the bag!
The #1 rider, the #1 team, the #2 rider and 10 wins from 20: 2022 Moto3™ was a blast for the GASGAS Aspar Team. Both the crew and the company were rightfully honored for their supremacy at the FIM Awards that took place last weekend on the Italian peninsula and with other GASGAS’ world champions: Sam Sunderland and Andrea Verona.
Moto3 winner Izan Guevarra (7 wins and 13 podiums from the 20 rounds) took to the stage to accept his FIM gold medal status. The Majorcan had classified ahead of countryman and teammate Sergio Garcia (3 victories and 10 rostrums) in the standings and ruled the Moto3 division despite the often chaotic, unpredictable and incredibly close nature of the category. Guevara claimed races in Spain, Catalunya, Germany, Aragon, Japan, Australia and Valencia; owning the ‘quartet’ of all Spanish rounds.
The title was the first in the principal MotoGP championship classes for the fast GASGAS ‘red’. Aspar crew claimed the Teams and Constructors crowns to-boot for a dominant display. The achievements marked a milestone for the brand on the road.
On the dirt and Sam Sunderland aced his second DAKAR Rally title at the beginning of 2022: another ‘first’ for GASGAS atop the podium at the ball-crunchingly tough annual race. The Brit then doubled-up with the FIM RallyGP World Championship during the summer. Across Enduro trails it was Italian Andrea Verona who excelled to lay waste in both the EnduroGP and Enduro1 World Championships. Andrea’s competitiveness extended to the International Six Days Enduro – the oldest event in the FIM canon – and he also helped GASGAS to the Enduro1 Manufacturers gold plate.
